The Festival for German Unity Day 2024:
inclusive and accessible
The Festival to celebrate German Unity Day is an open event where everyone, regardless of their origin, age, disability, religion or gender, should feel comfortable and safe. In Schwerin, a wide range of measures are in place to ensure accessibility and make it easy to attend the event.
Barrier-free access
The event site is easily accessible by public transport. Transport hubs, including the main railway station, Marienplatz and Platz der Jugend, are located in the immediate vicinity of the Festival of Unity.
Further information on barrier-free travel as well as information and timetables can be found on the public transport website.
Disabled parking
There is a designated disabled car park with several spaces on Burgstraße in the immediate vicinity of the event. It can be accessed from Werderstraße during the event. You can also find the location on the interactive map. The organiser assumes no liability and cannot guarantee that there will be free parking spaces.
Entry
The event site is open and can be accessed and exited from all sides. Assistance animals, e.g. guide dogs, are permitted on the site.
Assistance on site
- Signage with signposts and pictograms are there to help visitors find their way around the site
- To make it easier for wheelchair users to visit the event, our interactive map provides an accessible route recommendation.
- There are plenty of seating options for people with different abilities. These seats are largely wheelchair accessible.
- There are designated wheelchair spaces or wheelchair platforms in central programme areas: e.g. at the stages at Alter Garten and the Marktplatz, in the Future Forum, the state presentations and other locations.
- All central walkways and access routes on the event site are wheelchair accessible. Cable bridges and ramp extensions with reduced gradients will be used. Stands with indoor displays and activities have ramps for guests in wheelchairs. At selected locations, special floor panels make roads and access routes more accessible (see interactive map).
- All toilet blocks include accessible toilets
Transcription / sign language interpreters
- The Future Forum is all about exchange, discussion and dialogue. To make it easier for people with hearing impairments to participate, all programmes are transcribed synchronously. Speeches are displayed 1:1 on an LED wall in written form.
- Selected spoken contributions on the stage at the Alter Garten will also be transcribed.
- Selected spoken contributions on the stage on the Marktplatz will be accompanied by sign language interpreters.
