We’re celebrating German Unity Day 2023 in Hamburg.
Thirty-three years after German reunification, on the 2nd and 3rd of October 2023 and between Lake Alster and Elbe River, we’ll be celebrating all the things that unite us and opening horizons for the future.
AT THE HEART OF THE CITY, ON THE PULSE OF OUR TIME:
THE FESTIVAL OF UNITY – CELEBRATING A UNITED GERMANY
Be prepared for an exciting mix of the experimental and the traditional. Enjoy culture and culinary specialities. See Germany with different eyes and discover new sides of Hamburg. On the 2nd and 3rd of October 2023 we’ll be celebrating the rich diversity of our country – right where people in Hamburg come together: around the Binnenalster lake in the city centre.

THE FESTIVAL OF UNITY
From the fall of the Berlin Wall to the Citizens’ Festival: Why (and how) we celebrate German Unity Day on 2 and 3 October – that’s what our short animated journey through time reveals.
“Hamburg is an international hub of progress and diversity. We want to harness the power of these strengths to open up new horizons together. This is our message for German Unity Day, which we are hosting on the 2nd and 3rd of October 2023 around Lake Alster. We’re also celebrating the reunification of East and West Germany, which in 1990 also brought the people in the Hamburg metropolitan region back together with our neighbours.”
Greeting by Dr Peter Tschentscher,
First Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg & President of the Bundesrat

From elegant to rugged – with brickwork, steel and glass side by side. It’s a place of dreams for many, with untold highlights waiting to be experienced come rain or sunshine.
