LOWER SAXONY

A STATE OF ENERGY

»Moin«

Niedersachsen Wappen

A wealth of beautiful landscapes, economic and cultural diversity – Lower Saxony is one of the most innovative and varied states in Germany. From the River Weser to the mighty Elbe, from the Harz Mountains to the coast, people here live and work in many different regions, united by a shared sense of innovation and tradition.

Lower Saxony is well on the way to becoming Germany’s top state for energy: we are the leaders in the generation, storage, import and export of renewable energy across all segments. We supply 100% of our electricity needs through onshore and offshore wind farms, biomass and solar power plants. We’re proud to say that renewable energies are our new raw materials. On top of all this, numerous companies, scientists and research experts are also actively involved in the development and roll-out of hydrogen technologies. Lower Saxony is a state with important industries and a bold vision. Visit us and find out more!

5 Highlights
in Lower Saxony

The coast

The North Sea coast in Lower Saxony boasts some beautiful sandy beaches, and the low and high tides make the coastline a unique natural spectacle.

Herrenhausen Gardens

The Herrenhausen Gardens in the state capital are amongst the most important Baroque gardens in Europe. Between artistically arranged hedges, romantic paths for strolling around and magnificent fountains, the Gardens are also the venue for many cultural events.

Harz Mountains

Lower Saxony – all flat? Nothing could be further from the truth! The Wurmberg in the Harz Mountains stands a proud 971 metres tall and is a great destination for hiking and winter sports. The national park is a habitat for rare species such as the lynx and the wildcat.

Lüneburg Heath

Picturesque villages, rolling hills and flocks of bleating sheep: Lüneburg Heath is one of the most beautiful landscapes in Lower Saxony and is well worth visiting, particularly when the heather is in bloom.

The Pilsum Lighthouse

Wide expanses of countryside as far as the eye can see! You can explore Lower Saxony on the excellent network of bike paths, as you cycle past horses, cows and sheep – perhaps with the beautiful lighthouse at Pilsum as your destination.

LOWER SAXONY AT THE FESTIVAL OF UNITY

Welcome to Lower Saxony. In the year in which we all celebrate the 75th anniversary of our Basic Law, we invite our guests to team up with Politik zum Anfassen e.V. and test their knowledge in our escape room. Other fun activities include a photo booth and a foosball table where you have to work together as a team to reach the goal.

Autostadt GmbH will also be there – with an electric VW model T2 camper van and an Environmental Footprint display, which shows the causes and effects of the unchecked consumption of resources: how do our lifestyles and desire for more stuff impact on our individual consumption of resources and how many earths would we need if everyone lived like this?

The state’s tourist marketing agency will be showcasing “Sustainable Tourism”. From the North Sea to the Harz Mountains: experience the sheer diversity of Lower Saxony as a holiday destination. Visitors of all ages are very welcome – on the 2nd of October from 11 am to 8 pm, the 3rd of October from 10 am to 8 pm and the 4th of October from 10 am to 6 pm.
