RHINELAND PALATINATE

THE GOOD LIFE

»Willkommen!«

Rhineland Palatinate is a relatively young state on historic ground. Located at the heart of Europe, it combines tradition and modernity, handicrafts and tomorrow’s technology, beautiful countryside and cultural wealth with economic success.

Since the Romans arrived here, over 2,000 years of eventful history have left their mark. On the 18th of May 1947, regions that were formerly Prussian, Hessian and Bavarian were joined to create a new state: Rhineland Palatinate.

History was written here: “Black, Red, and Gold”, the colours of the Hambach Festival – the very first democratic protest march on German soil – remain our national colours today. History was also printed in the state: this is where Johannes Gutenberg invented the letterpress.

Today, the state continues to shape this century of change, and is committed to driving forward the social and ecological transformation of business and society, including the expansion of renewable energy.

Visit our castles, palaces and museums, our cities such as Mainz, Trier and Koblenz, unwind with leisure activities in world-famous valleys and vast forests, and discover traditional entertainment at the many local festivals.

And while you’re at it, come and visit our stand at the celebrations for German Unity Day. In and around what is likely to be the world’s largest wine crate, we’ve got music, specialties and wine from Rhineland Palatinate plus, of course, lots of fascinating facts about our beautiful state.
