Brandenburg
THINGS CAN BE SO SIMPLE
»Tach auch!«
What makes Brandenburg stand out? Let’s start with its nearly 3,000 lakes, countless forests and protected areas, the wide fields that are seamed by tree-lined avenues. Or how about the incredible advance of research and development here, the new mobility industry and the lively culture scene? It isn’t in the nature of the locals to brag, which is why it took a while for word of our strengths to spread. But ever since Grünheide in Mark Brandenburg started being mentioned in the same breath as New York and Shanghai, interest in the largest German state in the east has rapidly risen. Air turbines, sheet steel and engaging feature films are produced in this region, which has Berlin at its centre. This means that no matter where you come from by train, car, boat or bike, Brandenburg is always ahead of Berlin. We are celebrating the arrival of skilled workers, creative minds and families, and are proud to be the German champion in attracting new residents for the 10th time in succession. In all modesty: you really can’t complain!
5 Highlights
in Brandenburg
Sanssouci
Frederick II had Sanssouci Palace (which translates as “without care”) built between 1745 and 1747 in the Rococo style as a summer residence. The park of the same name is considered the Prussian Versailles and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Gherkins
Crunchily delicious: Germany’s most famous gherkins are pickled in the Spreewald. Grown on humus-rich soil and seasoned with special spices, these gherkins are in a class of their own.
Storks
No other federal state has more storks breeding than Brandenburg. Rühstädt, the village with the most nests nationwide, is part of the Elbe-Brandenburg River Landscape Biosphere Reserve.
Houseboat
From sailing to wakeboarding, canoeing, stand-up paddling or even houseboating – Brandenburg offers countless prime spots for water sports along the Havel, Dahme and Spree rivers.
Rolls Royce
An export hit for 30 years: engines from Dahlewitz. Rolls-Royce is a global leader in engine production and is researching the future of climate-neutral aviation.
BRANDENBURG AT THE FESTIVAL OF UNITY
Sail through the countryside of Brandenburg
Inspired by “Setting Sail Together”, the motto of this year’s festival, Brandenburg is showcasing its maritime side at the festival.
As the German region with the most water, Brandenburg will be presenting the state on a hand-built houseboat moored on Schwerin’s Burgsee. Welcome aboard!
In our vast open countryside, you’re never far from water – with a choice of Canada-like wilderness, rustic Spreewald charm or places close to Berlin’s buzz.
Here, you can build engines, electric cars and wind turbines, make internationally acclaimed films or meet Bert, a moose who has taken up permanent residency here. Between the Oder and Elbe rivers, we offer plenty of space to unwind or take off; we are proud to have been the German champion in attracting new residents for the past 10 years. As we like to say here: “You really can’t complain.” We look forward to modestly extoling the benefits of our state at the Festival in in Schwerin!
From 2 to 4 October from 10 am to 6 pm, you can explore Brandenburg at Bertha-Klingbein-Platz. Visit our houseboat, discover the art of brewing, travel destinations and the Baumstubbenkino – films about and set in Brandenburg included.
We look forward to seeing you!
