A great place to live:

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

At the Pfaffenteich, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern will be presenting the state at the MV Mile, highlighting its beauty, quality of life and innovative drive – and inviting visitors to relax, discover and enjoy life here in the north. Tourism regions will be introducing themselves, and universities, colleges and students will be showcasing their work. A Green Information Market will be bringing the topic of sustainability to life. A wide range of institutions will be providing information about their work, including charities and business. All of this will be rounded off by tempting treats from the state: at the regional market, more than 20 producers from MV will be winning over visitors’ tastebuds.
The MV showcase programme takes place on 2 October 2024 from 2 pm to 8 pm and on 3 and 4 October from 10 am to 8 pm on both days.

World Heritage in MV

There are five UNESCO World Heritage Sites in MV – and if you want to find out more about them and the state’s intangible cultural heritage, then don’t miss this presentation on the MV Mile and the chance to experience exciting, hands-on history!

  • The Nosferatour at Kulturmühle Wismar is dedicated to the legend of Dracula – with an eerily exciting combination of drama, radio play and puppet show and figures towering up to 4.20 metres tall.
  • Music, crafts and old customs are all part of our intangible cultural heritage. This can be experienced on 2 October when Ralf Gehler plays the diatonic hand harmonica and on 3 October, when Ulrike Sulk demonstrates how the famous Freest fisherman’s rugs are made on a knotting loom. On 4 October, magnificently costumed city guides will provide information about Schwerin as a World Heritage Site and will be bringing centuries-old traditions to life, like the legendary Martensmann.

Experience the holiday land in the holiday cinema

MV Tourist Association invites visitors to experience its 360° holiday cinema, which is guaranteed to make you want to visit the state’s natural wonders, from the white beaches of the Baltic Sea to the Mecklenburg Lake District with its clear lakes and colourful boathouses. Every step and every gesture brings images to life!

Eco Bonds from MV

The state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has issued four Ökowertpapiere (eco bonds) which aim to counteract our carbon footprint with a positive handprint. The Waldaktie®, MoorFutures®, HeckenScheck® and Streuobstgenussschein® show that even a small financial contribution can make a big difference. All projects are being implemented in the state and can also be visited.

Illuminations at the Pfaffenteich

Stadtwerke Schwerin and renewable energy provider GP JOULE are illuminating the treetops at Pfaffenteich in the evening twilight, making them shine them in an optimistic green light. This unique light spectacle is also sustainable, as the electricity is generated by hydrogen fuel cells.

Knowledge is fun!

Research and innovation are really important in MV, where we believe in making learning and knowledge fun. An entertaining programme on the Science Stage will show how we do this. Highlights include:

  • Opening of the Knowledge Caravan with Prof Schleuderfund. Also taking part: Jugend Forscht, MikroMINT and guests from the Fraunhofer and Leibniz Institutes, the Max Planck Institute and the German Aerospace Centre (DLR), among others, all of which are contributing impressive exhibits.
  • Interview with Prof Dr Elizabeth Prommer, Rector of the University of Rostock: What opportunities are open to students here?
  • Space cinema: Tobias Bohnhardt from DLR presents exciting things from distant worlds.

Digitalisation – a topic for everyone

Together with the Digital Change Office, the state’s Digital Innovation Centres offer interactive activities for young and old. From creating the next hit song with the help of artificial intelligence, using digital tools in everyday family life or the simple and safe use of AI-based services at home – visitors are invited to experience in a fun way why digital change affects everyone. Exhibitors include start-ups such as the software developer Zasta and the training visionaries from matics sports, the future centre DeveLUP and Gründungswerft e.V., which under the motto ‘Sky of Seagulls’ aims to give anyone with ideas for digital change a platform on which to present their ideas to a broad audience.

Cutting-edge research in MV

Believe us when we say that what the universities in MV have up their sleeves is more exciting than many a thriller. At the University of Rostock, for example, the special research centre ELAINE is researching smart implants which can be used to treat motor disorders. With E BRAIN, the University of Greifswald is turning a robot into a competent rehabilitation therapist and the University of Wismar is presenting innovative solutions for flood protection. The Baltic Racing Team from Stralsund University of Applied Sciences will be getting on the fast track, while ArtIFARM and 5G PortVG is focussing on the functional, potentially life-saving application of AI and algorithms. The University Tent and Research Zone will be packed with an impressive range of insights and research fields.
